What is the OIML?

OIML is the International Organisation of Legal Metrology. The OMIL’s offices are located at 11 rue Turgot in the 9th arrondissement ofParis. Set up by a treaty, OIML is an intergovernmental organisation comprising member states, countries actively engaged in works, correspondent members and observer countries. OMIL was founded in1955 in order to promote the global harmonisation of legal metrology procedures. Since then, OIML has developed a worldwide technical structure providing its members with guidelines for the creation of national and regional regulations applying to the production and use of measuring instruments designed for legal metrology applications. In 2005 OIML set up a mutual recognition and acceptance agreement for test reports issued for the evaluation of measurement instruments covered by regulations.
